OUR
HISTORY

The story of The Mountain Grape and Maple and Vine is one of family, heritage, and community—woven together by generations of hard work, dedication, and a love for great food.

Paul, a fourth-generation Grantsville businessman and lifelong public servant, grew up surrounded by the hum of his family’s enterprises. His parents ran Grantsville Station for 25 years, while his grandparents and great-grandparents built and ran the Grantsville Dodge Garage in the late 1930s. But perhaps most influential of all was his grandmother, Stella—born to Italian immigrants from Abruzzo—whose legendary meatball subs at Grantsville Station and homemade meals in the school cafeteria left a lasting imprint on generations of local kids. Her passion for food became Paul’s, inspiring him to bring the flavors of his heritage to the heart of Appalachia.

Emily, a fourth-generation businesswoman, was born and raised in nearby Meyersdale, PA, where she started in hospitality at 15 years old — deep in the heart of maple country. A former Maple Queen, she grew up immersed in the traditions of her hometown, instilled with a love for the sweet, rich flavors of the region. Her Greek roots run deep as well—her great-grandmother immigrated from Crete in the early 1900s, bringing with her the bold flavors and hospitality of Greece. With an award-winning career in hospitality, wine expertise, and a history of public service as Mayor of Grantsville, Emily’s dedication to her community is as strong as her passion for exceptional food and drink.

Together, Paul and Emily have created The Mountain Grape, a place where Appalachian warmth meets the rustic flavors of Italy and Greece. Just next door, Maple and Vine celebrates the best of the region, blending the time-honored traditions of maple syrup with the finest wines and artisanal goods. For those looking to stay a little longer, Casselman View Cottages offer a peaceful mountain retreat—where comfort, charm, and nature come together in every stay.

For them, this isn’t just a business—it’s a love letter to their roots, their families, and the

communities that have shaped them. Whether you’re here for a handcrafted meal, a glass of wine, or a taste of something truly special, they welcome you with open arms—just as their families have for generations.
